A short history of UB8

Uxbridge was a market town and from 1885 it gave its name to a parliamentary seat that also covered the market town of Staines. Staines was removed in 1918. By 1945 growth in the population of the outlying areas meant more seats were needed. Southall became a seat of its own and Northolt passed to Ealing West. In 1950 Ruislip, Northwood and Harefield were separated to form another seat and Hayes and Harlington was also taken from the eastern territory. The core that remained was Uxbridge together with Hillingdon, Cowley and Ickenham. There are 69 listed buildings within 0.7 miles of the centre. The Group Operations Room is the only Grade I building. Those listed Grade II* are The Market House, the Church of St Laurence, the Church of St Margaret and the former Regal cinema.
