The Domesday Book of 1086 records a larger manor of Kingswinford in Seisdon hundred in Staffordshire with detached land at Oldswinford in Clent hundred in Worcestershire. The ancient parish took in Wordsley, Brierley Hill and Quarry Bank and its location on the fringe of the Black Country brought significant industrial influence. Kingswinford and Amblecote formed a rural district in 1894 but Amblecote became an urban district in 1898. The countryside portion of the parish moved to Kinver in 1933 and the remainder joined Brierley Hill Urban District in 1934. House building from the 1950s merged the old village with the neighbouring built-up area and the parish was abolished on 1 April 1966. Kingswinford has 31 Grade II listed buildings near its centre and two scheduled monuments, the Redhouse, Whitehouse and Newhouse glassworks and the cross in St Mary's churchyard.
