Tyne and Wear is served by the Tyne and Wear Metro light rail network. Newcastle Central is the main railway station, with a journey time to London King's Cross of approximately 3 hours (crow-flies distance 250 miles). The A1(M) motorway runs through the county, with the Newcastle Western Bypass (A1/A184) acting as a partial ring road. Newcastle International Airport is the main airport. The Port of Tyne in South Shields provides freight and ferry services.
