The Old Town Hall was finished in 1897. The town had two collieries, Wombwell Main and Mitchells Main. Five listed buildings stand near the centre, all Grade II, among them Bradberry Balk Bridge, the Church of St Mary and the southernmost chapel at Wombwell Cemetery. A fire destroyed the roof of one of the cemetery's two chapels.
