William Perkin discovered the first aniline dye, mauveine, at his North Greenford factory in March 1856. J. Lyons and Co. opened a factory in July 1921 and the Hoover Building, now Grade II* listed, followed in 1932. Five listed buildings include the Grade I Parish Church of the Holy Cross (Old Church).
