Streetly stayed countryside in Staffordshire until the 1950s, when large-scale building of new housing, driven by the urbanisation of Birmingham, gave it a suburban character. It formed part of Aldridge-Brownhills Urban District until 1974, when the metropolitan county of West Midlands was formed. Two listed buildings stand near the centre, both Grade II: the war memorial cross at All Saints' Church and Mallory.
