A short history of Barrow upon Soar
The name Barrow upon Soar means a grove beside the River Soar and the village appears in the Domesday Book. Its limestone had long been known by the nineteenth century. The township had 1099 inhabitants in 1801 and 1638 in 1831. It reached 1800 inhabitants in 1861 and 1973 in 1871, a rise put down to the limeworks opening. Twenty-five listed buildings lie within half a mile of the centre. Of these 24 are Grade II and the Church of the Holy Trinity is Grade II*.
