Dartford is the principal town in the Borough of Dartford, Kent, England. It is located 18 miles south east of Central London.

Best places to live in the area

There is a fantastic range of areas and properties in Dartford, perfect for those who commute into London, with the wish of being located outside the capital. Although choosing an area is very much down to personal choice, we have recommended areas for you to begin your search:

Darenth: First on our list of recommended areas, Darenth is a village and civil parish in which house prices average around £434,160 according to Rightmove. It is home to a variety of properties and is an excellent area to consider – with semi-detached, detached, and terraced properties being most popular. As you walk around Darenth, you will find a few pubs and restaurants including the Chequers pub, which has lots of local 5-star reviews. There is also a garden centre nearby which is always helpful when moving to a new home. Also, if you are planning on moving with children or starting a family, there is a nursery and primary school very close by. Finally, visit the Waller park pavilion for the perfect opportunity to play sports, walk the dog and get some fresh air or even to hold community events.

Shorne: Second on our list is Shorne, a village in the borough of Gravesham in Kent. Known for having some wonderful properties, the average house price here, according to Rightmove, is £486,865. This area is full of facilities to make daily life more interesting. There are many green spaces, such as Randall Woods, which are perfect for getting some fresh air and scenery or taking your dog for a long walk. Nearby are some highly praised bars, pubs and restaurants with the opportunity to indulge in community spirit – such as ‘The See Ho’ pub.

Cobham: Another wonderful area is Cobham, a village in Dartford. Recognised for its distinctive properties and streets full of character, homes here cost £579,667 on average. Throughout the area, you will find several services. For starters, there are a few schools in the area which is beneficial if you are planning on moving with children. As you walk along, you will find some local eateries such as The Ship Inn pub, recommended by locals as friendly and providing great food. Just a short drive along can then get you to Ashenbank Wood, a country park where you can enjoy the vast green space and escape busy life. Or keep yourself entertained in the Rochester and Cobham park golf club.

Transportation

Dartford has its own train station serving London Bridge, Waterloo East, Charing Cross, Cannon Street, Victoria, and additional links elsewhere. It also has a fast-track bus service linking Dartford to Bluewater and Ebbsfleet International station.

Dartford is also located at a crucial point where the A2 meets the M25 at junction 2 and it is home to the QEII river crossing to Essex.

Things to do and places of interest

The Orchard Theatre

Rated top out of 23 best things to do in Dartford on TripAdvisor, the orchard theatre hosts new theatre productions, music, and comedy acts from well-known and up-and-coming artists. Even better is that it is a just a 3-minute walk from the town centre, so you will never be far from some superb entertainment.

Aqua Park Lakeside

Just 15 minutes in the car and you could experience over 30 giant inflatable obstacles in the water at Aqua Park, Lakeside – for those who like adventure and thrills, enjoy giant slides, monkey bars and inflatable trampolines. It’s a fantastic and fun filled day out for the family with the added bonus of being close to your potential new home.

Chafford Gorges Nature Park

For a more relaxing day out, just a 20-minute drive from home, you could visit the 200 acres of green space Chafford gorges nature park has to offer – perfect for wildlife, picnics and taking in the vast amounts of green space and scenery with a walk. It also has reptiles to view and a visitor centre for children’s parties. It’s a facility to suit anyone and everyone.

Carnaval Meat & Tapas Restaurant Cocktail Bar

Visit Carnaval for delicious authentic Spanish tapas and stunning cocktails in a beautiful and cosy setting. With a mix of vegetarian, meat, and fish dishes, there’s something for everyone. Described as a ‘trip to Spain without the airfare’, it’s a must.

Shopping

There are also lots of opportunities to shop in Dartford, starting with some of the local shopping centres, The Orchard and The Priory indoor shopping.

For more variety of shops, and just a short drive away, there is Bluewater with over 330 shops, lots of bars and restaurants. It’s perfect to make the most of a shopping day. With the huge variety of activities and amenities in the local area, living in Dartford will never be dull.
