Paisley is a town situated in the west lowlands of Scotland and boarders Glasgow to the east and is part of the Renfrewshire council area. Paisley is renowned for its history with textiles in the 19th century and is the home of the Paisley pattern favoured across the world and worn by figures from Queen Victoria to the Beatles.

Paisley is also the largest town within Scotland and home to architectural treasures, hidden gems, and a vibrant cultural scene.

Today Paisley is a vibrant town with lots to see and do and offers a wealth of attractions.

Best places to live in Paisley

Paisley Town Centre: Paisley town centre is a hive of activity. Find everything you need from shops, to restaurants, and cafes. During 2030 there are plans to redevelop the town centre to reflect people’s shopping habits and add new attractors, giving the town a refresh and adding more kerb appeal.

The town centre has great commuting options with Paisley Gilmour Street train station giving a direct route to Glasgow in around 10 minutes, or 30 minutes by car. You can also get to Edinburgh in around 1 hour 30 minutes by train. Glasgow airport is only a 10-minute journey by car. This is a real selling point to living in the town centre for professionals.

Property prices within Paisley had an overall price of £115,735 over the last year, according to Rightmove.

Elderslie: Elderslie is a small village situated in Renfrewshire. Famous for being the birthplace of Scotland’s Braveheart, Sir William Wallace. This charming village has plenty to offer.

Elderslie is also home to an award-winning Butchers Steak & Grill restaurant and the popular Elderslie Golf Club.

Properties in Elderslie had an overall average price of £169,847 over the last year.

Things to do in Paisley

Gleniffer Braes Country Park

This beautiful country park is situated just on the outskirts of Paisley town centre. Popular for its outstanding views, amazing for walks, cycles, and runs it’s a great day out for all the family. Get back to nature and view wildlife. Bird watchers are in for a real treat with skylarks, meadow pipits, kestrels, sparrowhawks in addition to tit families feeding in the treetops along with goldcrest and chaffinches. Enjoy a picnic and soak up the scenery.

Paisley Abbey

Why not pay a visit to Paisley Abbey? Paisley Abbey is steeped in history dating back to 1163, first founded by Walter Fitzalan. The High Steward of Scotland signed a charter at Fotheringay for the founding of a Cluniac Monastery on land he owned in Renfrewshire. Thirteen monks came from Much Wenlock in Shropshire to set up a priory on the site. Today the Abbey is best known for its stunning architecture, religious ceremonies, concerts, and cultural events.
