Paddock Wood grew as a settlement during the later part of the nineteenth century, driven by hop growing in the surrounding area. By 1900 its railway station served three lines, which made the place a local transport hub. Eleven listed buildings stand close to the centre, all of them Grade II, among them Sunnycot, Burnside and Rose Cottages.
