A short history of Edenbridge
The old part of Edenbridge grew where the London to Lewes Way, a Roman road by then largely out of use, crossed the River Eden. Slag from local iron smelting went into building that road. The name comes from the Old English Eadhelmsbrigge, meaning Eadhelm's Bridge. In the Middle Ages the town became a hub of Wealden iron working. Many mediaeval timber buildings survive, one now housing the Eden Valley Museum. The railways brought expansion and Marlpit Hill to the north became part of the town. After the Second World War the London County Council built estates at Stangrove Park and Spitals Cross. There are 29 listed buildings within half a mile of the centre, with the Church of St Peter and St Paul at Grade I and Church House, Taylour House, The Crown Hotel and Tanyard House at Grade II*.

Some facilities may lie just outside the town itself.
