The Jackson family acquired the company in 1871 and held it until 1974. An explosion at Parkhouse Colliery in November 1882 killed 45 men and boys. Biwater took over the company in 1985 and the site closed some months after its sale in 2000. Seven listed buildings stand near the centre, all Grade II.
