Easy décor tips for tenants

When renting a property, it can feel as though you lack freedom when it comes to decorating your home. But don’t worry, we have compiled a list of hassle-free ideas to spruce up your home without upsetting your landlord or compromising your tenancy agreement.

Cool crockery

You may not be able to choose your kitchen décor, but you sure can accessorise! Investing in a new set of dishes will make your kitchen feel homelier, and you can find some cool, fashionable styles on the high street too.

Get artsy

Wall art is an easy way to add a personal touch to a rented home. Whether you like to go all out and experiment with colour or prefer the minimalist look, it’s a fantastic and affordable way to express your personality.

Check with your landlord first, but usually they will be ok with this. If they won’t allow you to use nails in the walls, opt for hanging strips – they remove cleanly without leaving permanent marks on your walls.

Mirror magic

Wall art isn’t the only way to accessorise your walls – mirrors can instantly transform a room from drab to chic. Not only will they add character to your home, they can make your room appear bigger too.

Make sure to check with your landlord first, as you may not be allowed to put nails or screws in your walls.

Scented candles

There are so many ways you can use candles to decorate your home. Encase them in glass lanterns for a rustic vintage look, scatter scented tealights around your room or even decorate your own candle holders if you’re looking for a fun DIY project. The possibilities are endless, and they will most certainly add a romantic ambience to your home.

Au Naturale

Visit your local flower market and pick out your favourite plants to decorate your home. They are cheap, great for the environment and are right on trend for 2019!

Do your research beforehand – if you don’t have a lot of space, don’t buy plants that will grow too large, and if you don’t have much time on your hands, go for low-maintenance plants such as succulents that won’t need watering too often.

Textiles and textures

If you have wooden laminate floors and can’t have carpet put down, purchase a trendy rug to add some style to a plain room. Textured cushions or a coloured throw will add some pizazz to your plain sofa or bed too.

You may not have much flexibility in terms of the larger furniture, but accessorising can be a fun way to show off your sense of style.

Lighting

It’s easy to experiment with lighting, as you have so many options! Change your lamp shades as frequently as you change your bedding – you will notice a huge difference.

Consider playing around with fairy lights as they are cheap, low-maintenance and hugely popular in 2019. Whether you hang them above your bed frame, or position them in mason jars, there are so many ways you can style them!
